NUMC OFFICIALS TO KICK OFF BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH WITH NEW YORK’S ONLY STATE-OF-THE-ART 3D MAMMOGRAPHY MOBILE BREAST CANCER DETECTION FACILITY
East Meadow, NY (October 20, 2017) –Nassau University Medical Center President and CEO, Dr. Victor F. Politi and cancer survivor and Executive Director of Hewlett House and President of 1 in 9, Geri Barish, along with NUMC’s Drs. Pipia, Riggs, Kanth, Podrumar, , oncology fellows and Megan C. Ryan, Esq., will be kicking off Breast Cancer Awareness Month with New York State’s only 3D mammography Mobile Breast Cancer Facility, Friday, October 20, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the front entrance, Carman Avenue, Nassau University Medical Center at 2201 Hempstead Turnpike in East Meadow, NY.
Offering the latest technology in breast cancer detection, the three-dimensional breast tomosynthesis is the most effective imaging procedure when performing a mammography. Proven to find cancers earlier, the 3D mammogram oftentimes cuts the number of call backs for the patients because it is more efficient at the way its imaging program works.
This technology allows the radiologist to look though the tissue to better identify suspicious lesions, as opposed to a 2D composite flat view. While the 3D breast tomosynthesis screening still compresses the breast like a traditional mammogram, it takes multiple images at different angles to create a view through slices in a 3D image, with prompt results.
