LYN D. WEISS, MD, CHAIR OF PHYSICAL MEDICINE AND
REHABILITATION AT NUMC AUTHORS EIGHTH BOOK “EASY EMG: A GUIDE TO PERFORMING NERVE CONDUCTION STUDIES AND ELECTROMYOGRAPHY “

East Meadow, NY May 8, 2015… Lyn D. Weiss, MD, chair of physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R) department at the Nassau University Medical Center (NUMC) has co-authored her eighth medical book.  This latest one is entitled Easy EMG A Guide to Performing Nerve Conduction Studies and Electromyography, in collaboration with Jay M. Weiss, MD a voluntary attending physiatrist and Julie Silver, MD, associate professor at Harvard in the department of physical medicine and rehabilitation. An EMG is a diagnostic procedure to assess the health of muscles and nerve cells that control them, measuring the electrical activity of muscles at rest and during contraction. Nerve conduction studies measure how well and how fast the nerves can send electrical signals. Nerves control the muscles in the body with electrical signals called impulses.

“Congratulations to Drs. Weiss, Weiss and Silver on the publication of the “Easy EMG” resource guide which will be a very helpful reference book for students, residents and attending in performing and interpreting an electromyogram (EMG), with the ultimate goal to better serve patients,” said Victor F. Politi, MD, FACP, FACEP, NuHealth/NUMC President/CEO.

“The authors have been privileged to work for and with many talented individuals and with the departments of PM&R at NUMC and at Harvard. We are extremely grateful to have the support and encouragement of NUMC’s acting medical director, Victor Scarmato, MD and our President/CEO at the Nassau University Medical Center, Victor F. Politi, MD, FACP, FACEP, who have been role models in the practice of medicine and administration. They always put patient care first and strive to provide the best care possible. We have given better care to our patients because of them, and for that we are appreciative,” Dr. Lyn Weiss stated.

Lyn D. Weiss, MD, is a 1985 graduate of SUNY Downstate Medical Center School of Medicine and is board certified in both physical medicine and rehabilitation and electrodiagnostic medicine.  She served both her internship and her residency at Nassau University Medical Center and has been chairman of the department since 1994.  In addition to the chairmanship and serving as a clinical professor at Hofstra University, Dr. Weiss is also the director of the residency training program, and the director of electrodiagnostic medicine.
Dr. Weiss has a strong interest in research and has presented numerous papers, abstracts and research developments to Medical Society meetings and seminars and served as a manuscript reviewer for Academy publications.  In addition to many book chapters, Dr. Weiss has had six other books published; Cumulative Trauma Disorder, published in 1998 and Skin Care Triad, published in 2000, Easy EMG, published in 2004, Easy Injections, published in 2007, The Oxford Handbook of PM&R published in 2010, and Neuromuscular Quick Pocket Reference published in 2012.  Dr. Weiss is a professor of clinical physical medicine and rehabilitation at SUNY Stony Brook.  Three of Dr. Weiss’ books, “Easy EMG”, “Easy Injections” and “Neuromuscular Quick Pocket Reference” have been translated into Chinese and are available worldwide.
