NUMC’s L. Carlos Zapata, MD, Elected as Councilor for Medical Society of the State of New York
East Meadow, NY. May 6—Victor F. Politi, MD, FACP, FACEP, NuHealth/NUMC President/CEO announces that L. Carlos Zapata, MD, an attending physician in the NUMC Emergency Department and a core faculty member of the NUMC emergency medicine residency program, was elected Young Physician Section Councilor of the Medical Society of the State of New York (MSSNY) at its 209th House of Delegates meeting in Saratoga Springs, NY on May 2.
Dr. Politi said: “Congratulations on your election as Councilor of the Medical Society of the State of New York, it is a well deserved recognition and another reflection on the emergency medicine department at NUMC, demonstrating your commitment to furthering its mission of providing quality care to Nassau’s vulnerable populations.”
“I’m honored to serve as a MSSNY Councilor and look forward to representing all the young physicians in New York,” said Dr. Zapata. “I look forward to working with the other MSSNY officials on important issues facing physicians in the region.”
Dr. Zapata is employed as an emergency medicine physician at Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow and Long Island Jewish Medical Center in Queens. A 2010 graduate of New York University School of Medicine, he completed his residency in emergency medicine at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in 2014.
An active member of organized medicine, Dr. Zapata served as MSSNY’s Commissioner of Communications. He serves on the Government Affairs Committee of the NY Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians and on the MSSNY Delegation to the AMA Young Physician Section Assembly. He also serves as Assistant Treasurer of the Medical Society of the County of Queens.
