JACK LEVINE, NUMC’S DIRECTOR OF AUTISM CENTER, TO BE HONORED BY POSTPARTUM RESOURCE CENTER OF NEW YORK

East Meadow, NY……Victor F. Politi, MD, FACP, FACEP, NuHealth/NUMC President/CEO, announces that Jack Levine, MD, FAAP, Director of NUMC’s Autism Center, has been selected by the Postpartum Center of New York to receive the “Pioneer Award” at its 5th Annual Summer Gala on August 13, 2015, to benefit its essential programs and services.

“Congratulations to Dr. Levine upon his recognition by the Postpartum Center of New York, a notable honor from a group dedicated to increasing awareness and access to care for New York families at risk or experiencing perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, including pregnancy and postpartum depression,” stated Dr. Politi. “Dr. Levine is an outstanding honoree as he is a strong advocate for community based and family centered care for all children, especially those with mental health concerns and special health care needs.”

The Postpartum Center currently helps more than 2000 families each month to get the help they need. The organization helps families suffering from postpartum depression to get the help they need to be well. The Postpartum Center provides emotional support to families, educational information, healthcare and support group resources and trainings to the community.

“I am humbled and grateful by the great recognition accorded to me by the Postpartum Center. I feel fortunate to be able to work with such a remarkable group that is dedicated to helping families with postpartum depression and anxiety disorders and look forward to furthering the center’s mission,” said Dr. Levine.

Dr. Jack Levine is a general pediatrician with subspecialty certification in developmental behavioral pediatrics. He has been a general pediatrician for over 25 years in Queens, New York.  As a member of the Department of Pediatrics and the director of the Center for Autism, he sees patients in the Child Development Center at Nassau University Medical Center.  He is a member of the advisory board for the Postpartum Resource Center of New York and a member of the Nassau County Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorder (PMAD) Task Force.  On the local, state and national level Dr. Levine has actively encouraged pediatric healthcare providers to screen for perinatal mood and anxiety disorders and to make early and appropriate referrals in order to optimize maternal and child outcomes. 

As the co-chairman of the Committee on “Screening for PMADs in General Pediatric Practice” of the Society for Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics, Dr. Levine along with Dr. Miguelina German helped to write recommendations for PMAD screening and conducted a very well attended national webinar for pediatricians.  As a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Dr. Levine is the chair of NY State Chapter 2 Committee on Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics, a member of the State Early Childhood Development Committee and was recently elected to the executive committee of the National AAP Section on Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics.   He is a clinical assistant professor of Pediatrics at Hofstra University Medical School.  He attended medical school at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, completed his residency at Long Island Jewish Medical Center and returned to Albert Einstein for his fellowship training.   Dr. Levine has presented information on the importance of PMAD screening in pediatric primary care to many audiences including pediatricians, perinatal nurses, physician assistants, mental health professionals and parents.
