NUMC’S MARIANNE FRIERI, MD, PHD, CHIEF OF ALLERGY IMMUNOLOGY AT NUMC, INVITED TO PRESENT HIV UPDATE CONTINUING MEDICAL EDUCATION LECTURE AT ALBANY MEDICAL COLLEGE


East Meadow, NY…..July 27, 2015…Marianne Frieri, MD, PhD, chief of allergy and immunology at the Nassau University Medical Center’s department of medicine, has been invited to present a continuing medical education lecture on an “Update on HIV” at Albany Medical College’s 21st Annual CME Allergy Immunology conference. She presented her lecture on Thursday  July 23, 2015,  along with other faculty from Albany Medical College.

During her lecture, Dr. Frieri reviewed the diagnosis and HIV pathogenic mechanisms, reviewed structure, immune events, life cycle, evasion, a clinical and research study. She also had an opportunity to discuss targets for antiviral therapy, obstacles to HIV vaccine development and implications.

The 21st Annual  CME meeting at Albany Medical College attracted many staff  faculty physicians from pediatrics, internal medicine, different specialties,( allergy immunology,. infectious disease, gastroenterology, otolaryngology, and family medicine ) medical fellows, residents  and medical students. Albany Medical College has attracted and produced many leaders in medicine and research.

Dr. Frieri completed her post-graduate residency training in Internal Medicine at St. Joseph Hospital an affiliate of Northwestern University Medical Center in 1980 and completed a fellowship in Allergy Immunology in the NIAID at the National Institute of Health in 1983, prior to becoming the Director of Clinical Immunology and Allergy Immunology Training in Nassau University Medical Center.  She is triple board certified in internal medicine, allergy immunology and diagnostic laboratory immunology and Professor of Medicine and Pathology at SUNY Stony Brook.  Dr. Frieri is a professor of medicine and pathology at the State University of NY at Stony Brook and on the faculty at New York Institute of Technology, New York College of Osteopathic Medicine.
