A.HOLLY PATTERSON EXTENDED CARE FACILITY ACHIEVES SUCCESSFUL CMS LABORATORY CLIA VALIDATION SURVEY

East Meadow, NY…..Victor F. Politi, MD, FACP, FACEP, NuHealth/NUMC President/CEO, announces that on January 14, 2015, the New York State Department of Health performed a routine inspection of the laboratory at A Holly Paterson Extended Care Facility (AHP). The nursing home was then contacted by the Department of Health and Human Services Center of Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) that their laboratory had been selected for an onsite validation survey to be conducted by a representative of the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988 (CLIA) of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services New York Regional Office.

In a recent e-mail, Joseph Cialdella, Laboratory Consultant for the CLIA Program at CMS, Division of Survey, Certification and Enforcement, wrote: “It was a pleasure meeting you (NuHealth’s Point of Care Coordinator) and the lab staff at AHP. Because this was a CLIA validation survey, you do not receive any official report……….the only time a facility would receive a report would be if I had identified serious deficiencies. Fortunately, none were found at AHP’s laboratory. As a matter of fact, I did not identify any deficiencies at all. I congratulate you and the lab staff.”

The AHP laboratory is under the Directorship of NUMC’s  Dr Wondwossen Gebre. He, along with NUMC Point of Care Coordinator, Doris Shurman, and NUMC Chemistry Supervisor, Marilyn Batenga work together with AHP Respiratory Supervisor, Theresa Edelman, and AHP Phlebotomy and Nursing staff to achieve Regulatory compliance and successful inspections.

Dr. Politi added his congratulations as well: “Congratulations to the laboratory staff at AHP on their successful validation survey which occurred on April 1, 2015 and in which the inspector did not find any deficiencies at all. Great job by all nursing home employees at the lab who excelled during the examination of policies, procedures and practices.”
