DAVID NG, MD, FAAEM, ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR OF NUMC’S EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT, SELECTED BY WILLISTON PARK FIRE DEPARTMENT AND EMERGENCY RESCUE SQUAD AS ITS MEDICAL DIRECTOR

East Meadow, NY………..Victor F. Politi, MD, FACP, FACEP, NuHealth/NUMC’s President/CEO announces that David Ng, MD, FAAEM, associate director of the emergency department at the Nassau University Medical Center, has been selected by the Williston Park Fire Department and Emergency Rescue Squad to serve as its medical director until 2020. The department, comprised of 101 volunteer members, serves the communities of Williston Park, Albertson and East Williston.

The American College of Emergency Physicians highlighted the medical director as an integral component of the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) agency stating that the medical director should have ultimate authority over all clinical and patient care aspects of the EMS agency, with the specific job description dictated by local needs. The medial director is responsible for the general care-related activities of a particular agency. There are many facets of an EMS agency in which a medical director should be engaged in including education and training activities, protocol and policy development, quality improvement, liaison and corrective actions related to patient care actions by providers.

“Congratulations to Dr. Ng on being selected to serve as the Williston Park Fire Department’s medical director, where he will be responsible to ensure that patient care activities performed by EMS providers are appropriate, within their scope of practice, and within operational expectations. It is a well deserved recognition, reflecting very well on him and on NUMC’s emergency department and the accomplished staff providing care to Long Island’s most vulnerable patients,” stated Dr. Politi. “It is critical that the fire department’s medical director work collaboratively with the agency’s leaders to ensure the EMS program administrative, operational and clinical components are cohesive and complementary.”

Dr. Ng indicated: “I am honored and excited to have been selected to serve as Williston Park Fire Department’s medical director and look forward to working closely with all the EMS fire department volunteers who have dedicated their time and skills to serving the residents of Williston Park, Albertson and East Williston.”
