MICHAEL M. DELUCA, MPA, MEMBER OF NUHEALTH/NUMC BOARD OF DIRECTORS, RECEIVES TROOPER WILLIAM H. BARFOOT AWARD FROM THE NEW YORK STATE TROOPERS POLICE BENEVOLENT ASSOCIATION

East Meadow, NY……….Michael M. DeLuca, MPA, a member of the board of directors of NuHealth/Nassau University Medical Center and its former Executive Vice President/COO, has been awarded the highest recognition from the New York State Troopers Police Benevolent Association (PBA), the Trooper William H. Barfoot Award, for his commitment to the success of the organization and its members and for making the most impact in the lives of a PBA member or members in the previous year. Trooper Barfoot is considered the father of the PBA and served as its first President in 1943-1944. He developed a concept of a Troopers PBA in 1942 as a member of the Armed Forces. While comparing life of a Trooper to life as a wartime soldier, he realized the soldier’s life was more preferable.

In Mr. DeLuca’s capacity as a Health Care Advisor to the PBA through the Police Surgeons Group, he helped develop a pilot project with Mount Sinai Hospital for an expedited referral process for Troopers and their families which led to incredible medical outcomes for numerous Troopers and their families. Mount Sinai is now a Preferred Medical Partner with the PBA and the concierge system at Mount Sinai has become a model for expedited care in other medical institutions around the State. Mr. DeLuca had been diligently working with the New York State Troopers Police Benevolent Association through the Police Surgeons Group to successfully obtain designation for the Nassau University Medical Center to be a Preferred Medical Partner for Troopers and their families to use in their time of needed hospitalization.

“I am humbled and honored to receive this prestigious recognition from the NYS Troopers Police Benevolent Association and look forward to serving the Troopers and their families with an expedited referral process and with quality health care at NUMC,” said Mr. DeLuca.

Michael B. Mirotznik, Esq., Chair of the NuHealth/NUMC Board of Directors and Dr. Victor F. Politi, President/CEO both indicated: “We extend our congratulations to Mr. DeLuca on receiving such a prestigious and well deserved award for his dedication to improving the members’ well-being and overall access to outstanding medical care. When members or their families become injured or ill, the Police Surgeons Group is called upon to offer their expertise for the best possible medical care and we, at NUMC, stand ready to assist them.”
