NUHEALTH’S DRS. GUITELLE ST. VICTOR AND DAMIR HUREMOVIC ACCEPTED AS FELLOWS OF THE AMERICAN ACADEMY OF PSYCHOSOMATIC MEDICINE

East Meadow, NY………..Victor F. Politi, MD, FACP, FACEP, NuHealth’s President/CEO announces that Drs. Guitelle St. Victor and Damir Huremovic, both attending psychiatrists at the Nassau University Medical Center (NUMC), have been accepted as “Fellows of the American Academy of Psychosomatic Medicine” (APM) in recognition of their contribution to the profession of psychosomatic medicine. The ceremony took place on November, 14, 2014 at the annual APM meeting in Fort Lauderdale, in recognition by their peers of their abilities, talents and contributions to the profession.

Dr. Rao, chair of the psychiatry and behavioral health department at NUMC, extended his congratulations to Drs. St. Victor and Huremovic: “You are being recognized for your work and contributions to the field of psychiatry. We applaud you on this recognition, demonstrating your commitment to providing quality care to all your patients. On behalf of NUMC and the psychiatry department, please join us in wishing you both best wishes and much continued success as “Fellow Status” in the American Academy of Psychosomatic Medicine and throughout your career.”

Dr. Guitelle St. Victor was born and raised in Haiti where she completed high school and college in a 7 year-cycle. She then traveled to France where she attended medical school at the University of Montpellier; she graduated from the University of Montemorelos in Mexico. She then completed a residency in adult psychiatry at St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital in New York and a fellowship in psychosomatic medicine at Long Island Jewish Hospital. Dr. St. Victor is the 6th psychiatrist in her family. She is currently a full time psychosomatic medicine attending psychiatrist at NUMC, where she also serves as clerkship director for medical students in Psychiatry. Her command of four languages is an asset, especially for the underserved populations that are serviced by the hospital. She is board certified in psychiatry and also in psychosomatic medicine. In  May 2014,she was inducted as a “Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association”(APA) in recognition to her contribution to the field. She is currently working at NUMC as a full time psychosomatic medicine attending and as the clerkship director for medical students in psychiatry. She is the sixth psychiatrist in her family and is blessed with the command of four languages, which helps when caring for patients in underserved communities

Dr. Huremovic is a vice chair for clinical affairs with the department of behavioral health at NUMC. Originally from Bosnia, he trained, among other institutions at Johns Hopkins University and completed his psychiatry training at SUNY Downstate and his psychosomatic medicine (consultation-liaison psychiatry) fellowship at North Shore-LIJ. He joined NUMC in 2007 and has devoted his career to developing a psychosomatic medicine service with a goal of improving the overall level and integration of care. In 2010, he and Dr. Guitelle St. Victor started an ACGME-accredited fellowship in psychosomatic medicine that continues to educate new generations of psychiatrists proficient in the art of psychosomatic medicine. He is an active member of the American Psychiatric Association and the Academy of Psychosomatic Medicine, where he serves on the membership subcommittee.

St. Victor and Huremovic.
