In a recent letter, Shari Miles-Cohen, PhD, senior director for women’s programs at the APA wrote: “Congratulations! On behalf of the American Psychological Association (APA) Leadership Institute for Women in Psychology (LIWP) Executive Committee and in recognition of your outstanding career achievements and demonstrated leadership potential, I am pleased to invite you to participate in 2015-2016 APA LIWP.  Congratulations, again, on your notable professional accomplishments and your selection as a member of the APA LIWP Year Eight class.”

Dr. Politi also extended his congratulations to Dr. Schaefer on this notable recognition: “Best wishes on joining the APA Leadership Institute for Women in Psychology. It is a remarkable achievement and we are proud of what it means to us and to our patients, and it is another reflection on you and the PM&R department.”

Established by the APA Committee on Women in Psychology, the APA LIWP’s mission is to prepare, support, and empower women psychologists as leaders to promote positive changes in institutional and organizational life and to increase the diversity, number, and effectiveness of women psychologists as leaders. The program is designed to help ensure that professionals have the knowledge and skills necessary to compete for and be more effective in leadership positions in academic, academic medicine, clinical, or consulting settings, as well as other professional settings.  The APA LIWP: Year Eight will commence on Tuesday, October 27th through Thursday October 29, 2015 in Washington DC.

Lyn Weiss, MD, chair of PM&R noted, “This is a remarkable achievement and well deserved. Dr. Schaefer is an excellent clinician and researcher. She is a leader in the field of neuropsychology”.
