Russell Caprioli, DPM, FACFAS, Appointed to the Board of Directors of the Nassau Health Care Corporation (NuHealth)

East Meadow, NY……….Russell Caprioli, DPM, FACFAS, has been appointed to the Nassau Health Care Corporation (NHCC) Board of Directors by the Nassau County Legislature. Also known as NuHealth, NHCC is community health care system with a public mission and includes the Nassau University Medical Center, the A. Holly Patterson Extended Care Facility and five Long Island Federally Qualified Health Centers located throughout Nassau County. Dr. Caprioli will serve on several committees of the board, namely the finance, contracts, ambulatory and compensation.

Under the New York State Public Authorities Law, the Nassau County Legislature appoints four out of the fifteen voting directors to the board of the NHCC. Dr. Caprioli is filling the remaining term of John T. McCann who had resigned and whose term expires on March 18, 2016. Nassau County Presiding Officer of the Legislature, Norma Gonsalves stated: “Dr. Caprioli’s wealth of experience brings a fresh perspective to the NHCC board of directors. He will be a great asset to a health care institution with a long history of providing quality care to Nassau’s vulnerable populations.”

Michael Mirotznik, Esq., NHCC chairman of the board of directors, stated: “We welcome Dr. Caprioli to our board and look forward to working with him and the board to further our mission of providing quality health care to the residents of Nassau County, regardless of ability to pay. We are very fortunate that he is a leader with vast health care experience, with deep roots in Nassau County that will be very valuable and will serve him well on the board.”

Joining Mr. Mirotznik in welcoming Dr. Caprioli to the board, Victor F. Politi, MD, FACP, FACEP, President/CEO, added: “On behalf of our staff, I welcome Dr. Caprioli, whose extensive health care experience will be an asset at this time of enormous transformation in the health care industry. The combination of his clinical and managerial skills makes him a positive addition to our board and health care system.”

Dr. Caprioli graduated from the NY College of Podiatric Medicine in 1984 with a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine and completed his residency at Baptist Medical Center in Brooklyn in foot and ankle surgery and diabetic limb salvage. He is board certified by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery and Fellows of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (FACFAS). Dr. Caprioli has served as the chief of the division of podiatry at LI Jewish Medical Center since 1998 and program director of the North Shore-LIJ podiatric medicine and surgical residency.  Along with his wife Mary Ann Bilotti, DPM, Dr. Caprioli established an active referral based practice in Valley Stream since 1985. He has served as an invited anatomy instructor at Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine and as an adjunct clinical professor at the NY College of Podiatric Medicine from 2000 to present, as well as at Temple University College of Podiatric Medicine, Barry University, Kent State and Midwestern University.

Invited as a guest speaker at numerous conferences and lectures, Dr. Caprioli continues being very involved in research and has authored numerous professional publications. Active in various professional organizations, Dr. Caprioli served as President of the Nassau County Podiatric Medicine Association and has been the recipient of a number of prestigious awards.

Dr. Caprioli added: “It is an honor and a privilege to serve on the NuHealth board of directors. I look forward to working with my fellow board members and the administration on advancing its mission and on important issues facing Nassau’s safety net health care system.”
